Apple releases new iPhone software 2.0.1, which is an update to the original software on Monday. Apple launched its 3G version iPhone last month.
In its typical terse style, Apple didn’t go into details on what the new software fixed. According to Apple iPhone software 2.0.1 contains “bug fixes.”
At this time the 249MB update is only available by connecting the iPhone to your computer and downloading through iTunes. iTunes will then prompt you to install the software and take care of the update procedure.
Japanese consumers will be the first to use 3G version iPhone. Softbank Mobile Corporation will launch the phone in Japan on Friday. This phone will be available for customers at Softbank stores since 7 AM Friday local time.
The new phone is being awaited perhaps more eagerly in Japan than other countries because its launch on Friday marks the first time that Japanese users have been able to buy an iPhone. The previous version worked on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) -based mobile networks but the standard was never used in Japan so first-generation iPhones don’t work here.
On Friday the iPhone will go on sale in more than 70 countries. New Zealand is likely to see the first launch followed by Australia and then Japan.
